Building Project

Genesis 12:3 I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed."

Genesis 27:29 Let peoples serve you, And nations bow down to you. Be master over your brethren, And let your mother’s sons bow down to you. Cursed be everyone who curses you, And blessed be those who bless you!"

Won’t you consider in blessing and serving the children of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob with you prayers and donations.

May God Bless you and your families be Blessed.

We have received word from the owners that they are selling the home we rent from them. Our first response could have been to wonder where we were going to move. Instead, our response was, “Lord, obviously You are creating change in our circumstances and all we want to know is, “What do You want us to do now?

What we have come to believe is that He wants us to purchase the home.

Theresa and Scott have lived in Israel for 15 years and have been renting this home for the last 13 years. The Lone Soldiers, and other young people, have been coming here in ever greater numbers and they are familiar with us and with where we live. Here is what some of them have said…

“The Johnson's, and those who come to their home, are my family. In spite of us being Jewish and the Johnson's being Christians, people come here for fellowship. The kindness shown us tells us that what you believe doesn’t really matter. The atmosphere—the acceptance here—is great! We don’t feel uncomfortable. We all look forward to the weekend to be among our family and friends”—Natalie, Air Force Reserve, Lone Soldier.

“I have been coming to the Johnson’s for about three years now. I even brought my mother when she visited me from Russia. She couldn’t speak any English, but she knew what the Johnson's were doing for me. She told me, ‘It is hard to believe there really are Christian people like Scott and Theresa who give you so much support and help!’”—Dmitry, Army Reserve, Lone Soldier.

So, we believe it is time to stop paying rent and make our home permanently His.

The “home” we speak of is a 2,000 square foot Condominium in a quiet, tree-lined neighborhood in the southeastern part of Jerusalem. It has 5 bedrooms, 2-1/2 baths, and a large, 600 square foot balcony where we can eat and gather to relax and fellowship.

Our home is called HaMiflaht, which means “The Refuge”. The name has a military context because, when a soldier is in great danger—and finds himself needing to flee to a place of safety—he seeks a place of refuge, a place of peace, a place that he can trust (Miflaht). The refuge he is seeking is actually the presence of God for His protection, reassurance and peace. This is HaMiflaht. This is our home.

Property in Jerusalem may seem expensive from western standards. The cost of the home will be around $800,000 plus we need to raise an additional $200,000 for remodeling and maintenance.

Every Friday night, Lone Soldiers gather at HaMiflaht to eat Scott’s famous “Hot Wings” and share a large Shabbat dinner. In fact, in 2014 we have served over 5,500 meals!

Really, the only thing hindering us from doing more for the young people of this Land is more space and the money for more food.

If this letter finds a place in your heart to partner with us in this venture, kindly let us know. We look forward to hearing from you and we look forward to meeting you and to introducing you to our many “children”—the Lone Soldiers of the Land of Israel.

Awesome new website Scott! Also, great to see so many pics of your family and the house. We have not forgotten about you all there. In God’s timing we are eager to visit and see if we can do a film about the incredible stories from your community.

Shalom to you all as you celebrate Pesach next week! We just celebrated it (early) last night. Our Jewish friend led us all through a seder.
