Finally we are having rain in Jerusalem! along with the rain has come chilly weather, SOUP weather. So, if you have an awesome receipe that you would like to share, send it. I will cook-up a big potful for Shabbat and share the reviews with you.
Used to live in Hod Ha Sharon, many years. sadly had to leave because we couldn’t make a living. Long to go back.
Here’s a great soup recipe, I guess you can multiply it. this serves about 6 – 8 people, it’s called leak soup and I learned to cook it in France:
1 1/2 cups water
6 potatoes (fist sized, larger) cubed
3 leaks (washed and cleaned, they have a lot of sand in them) and diced small
cook until soft and able to mash or cream with a cuisinart or blender
add 1 cup butter or margarine
1 cup cream
salt and pepper to taste
uh-oh …. that makes it a totally dairy meal, I just realized, so you wouldn’t serve for erev shabbat, but it’s TOTALLY good, and not quite the potato soup you would be used to. it’s very terribly rich, of course, but really sticks with you, soup and bread and you’ve got a whole meal.
God bless your efforts. How have you managed to stay in Israel? Did you sponsor yourself? become citizens? Mah zeh? I can’t wait for the day to go back, but alas, I’m heading home to phoenix now, now that the last of the kids left Israel. I love it, but it is a hard place to stay with no income. I long for the day to go “Home” to Israel. You will be in my prayers.
